Overview of Corporate Characteristics in Bangladesh: A Comprehensive Study from the Power & Fuel Company
Abstract
This research paper examines the impact of board characteristics, audit committee attributes, financial ratios and also market category on the performance of the company of fuel and power companies that are publicly traded on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in Bangladesh. A plethora of empirical studies has been conducted on the composition of boards and the quality of audit committees. Many of the studies have been linked to financial ratios and have focused broadly on profitability and solvency ratio related issues. The objective of this study is to contribute how the power & fuel companies maintain their board characteristics and audit attributes and what processes will be apply on financial ratios in the industry. Usually, the developed countries assign the best audit firm to get the best audit committee performance. In this paper, the data are gathered from 2019 to 2023 to assess the annual reports of selected power and fuel companies in Bangladesh. As per the website of the Dhaka stock exchange, Bangladesh has twenty-three fuel and power companies. There are some ratios such as; ROA, ROE, and NPM which is indicate profitability ratios. On the other side solvency ratios included debt to equity ratio and debt to asset ratio. This paper also analyze market category, audit firm quality, gender equality, qualifications of both audit committee and board of directors, and nepotism of board of directors from the context of Bangladesh. The findings of the study will assist the stakeholders to get a through picture of the fuel and power industry of Bangladesh which will further persuade them to take their investment decisions.
