Project Report on Corporate Social Responsibility carried out by commercial banks in Bangladesh – A case study on Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL)
Abstract
Each and every bank has its own strategy, without which no bank can be formed or established. Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd. has a well-defined approach that primarily focuses on providing a sole counter service to its clients. Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd. is a second-gen commercial private bank that abundantly supports social activities and is one of Bangladesh's top private contributors in banking industries. DBBL's biggest contribution to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and as banks extend their focus in the CSR fields, mainly on education sector, health sector, disaster and flood relief, sports sector, social and health awareness and social and environmental development, the study is to recognise and acknowledge their recent CSR activities, particularly in the social issues, education sector and health sector. This report is an intensive study of recent CSR activities that DBBL mentioned and detailed out in its most recent published annual report. But for social reasons, DBBL has been seen to supply lodging help to the destitute and landless poor families, to supply money related help for the remodelling and upkeep of Camp Sawerwellsprings, and customary upkeep of wellsprings at the crossing point ofof Intercontinental Hotel and Jamuna State Visitor House. They helped to improve the aesthetics and spread knowledge about many social issues. With branches, sub-branch, ATMs, fast lanes, Nexus Pay, debit and credit cards, our mobile banking, and correspondent banking, DBBL is the largest digital banking platform in the country. Its programs for corporate social responsibility, including the largest scholarship program in the sector, help to distinguish between DBBL's customers and the community. In terms of CSR in education, DBBL has designated the advancement of education as a business objective. The program involves financial support for the prestigious Gannett Olympiad, Physics Olympiad, and Informatics Olympiad organizers, as well as help with the creation of educational infrastructure and the provision of necessary educational tools. Last but not least, as part of its corporate social responsibility in healthcare, DBBL has invested in the Smile-Brighter initiative, a Dutch Bangladeshi bank designed to restore children's smiles by providing free plastic surgery for youngsters with chapped lips and palates. Furthermore, Dutch-Bangladesh Bank has been attending to their suffering since 2008 by offering sophisticated cataract surgery (intraocular lens) cataract surgery activities for the blind around the nation. Additionally, DBBL offers one-time financial aid to patients with chronic medical conditions who are unable to pay for care.
