Barriers in using technology for education in Bangladesh
Abstract
The nature and quality of education have a significant role in the evolution of contemporary societies. Education plays a crucial role in developing competent, informed, and foresighted individuals for varied higher duties. In order to ensure educational development, integration of technology in education system is important. The COVID-19 global pandemic quickly demonstrated the significance of technology in the field of education. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify the factors that act as barriers to technology adaptation for education in Bangladesh. This study used survey analysis to gather data from the respondents. To conduct the analysis, a total of 8 variables were used of which 7 were independent variables and 1 dependent variable. The 7 independent variables ’Lack of Awareness’, ‘Resistance to Change’, ‘Educators’ Attitude’, ‘Lack of Training and Support’, ’Cost’, ‘Low Internet Bandwidth’, and ‘Inadequate ICT Infrastructure’ are the possible barriers to ‘Technology Adaptation’; which is the dependent variable. The survey was directed towards undergraduate students of Bangladesh to gather the data through closed ended questions. SPSS software was used to conduct reliability test, multiple regression analysis and correlation analysis. The results of this research provide realistic suggestions on how to avoid the factors to act as barriers as well as enhance the use of technology in educational programs, which are supported by the literature review. The study also provides a survey that may be used in further research to look at other aspects of technology integration in the education sector.
