Sonali Paper and Board Mills Ltd. was started in 1983 by Mr. Khan Md. Iqbal. It was the first paper mill factory in the private sector. Back at that time, Khulna Newsprint was the only paper mill factory existing in the government sector. Thus, Sonali Paper and Board Mills Ltd. being the only paper mill factory in the private sector, was enjoying a monopoly power. As a result, Mr. Khan Md. Iqbal was making huge profits, but this man never paid any of its taxes due. Hence, in 1998, the mill was closed down. Fortunately, in 2005, Younus Group took over the mill, invested a lot behind it, renovated it and finally, started it with complete enthusiasm in the year, 2006.
