Abstract
This internship report, titled "General Banking Operations and Competitive Position of Dhaka Bank PLC in Bangladesh's Banking Industry," has been written as one of the components towards the fulfillment of the requirements of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program from the School of Business & Economics, United International University.
In this report, my main aim has been to evaluate the general banking operations of Dhaka Bank PLC and analyze its competitive position in Bangladesh's banking industry. The report has been written using both primary and secondary sources of information. While the primary data have been gathered from my practical involvement during the internship at Dhaka Bank PLC, Banani Branch, the secondary information has been collected from the annual reports of Dhaka Bank PLC and Bangladesh Bank.
This report has four chapters. Chapter one covers the background, objectives, methodology, scope, limitations, and significance of the research study. Chapter two entails a detailed company and industry analysis. It provides a brief about the history, product and services offered by Dhaka Bank PLC, operational activities of Dhaka Bank PLC, financial performance and SWOT analysis of Dhaka Bank PLC. The chapter also analyzes the structure, size, trend, maturity, opportunity, and challenges of the banking industry in Bangladesh, emphasizing the increased focus on digital banking, financial inclusion, regulatory compliance, and technology advancement.
Chapter three covers my internship experience at Dhaka Bank PLC, Banani Branch. During the course of the internship, I worked as a trainee and helped in performing different general banking activities. These include opening bank accounts, National Identity (NID) verification, processing of N-Screen, generating savings account statements and Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR), issuing debit cards, issuing cheque books, pay order service, cheque clearing assistance, and customer communication.
The last chapter gives some recommendations to improve efficiency in operations, customer service, employee learning, online banking service, and risk management. The report concludes that Dhaka Bank PLC has successfully carved out a niche for itself in Bangladesh’s private commercial banking sector due to consistent technological development, customer-friendly services, sound corporate governance, and sustainable business practices. In addition to this, the internship program has helped me gain practical knowledge about banking operations and improve my analytical and communication skills.
