| dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of this study is to examine the changes in regional economic development for the establishment of the University of Barisal in Kornokhathi of Barisal District. The examination process explains how the university has played an important role in rising the economic activities and land prices of its surrounding areas. The changes in land price have been studied by using the Central Place Theorem. The data have been collected by applying cluster sampling method. Land prices and surrounding business activities in Kornokhathi are solely influenced by the university establishment. Estimated results indicate that the land price has been increased in the all four blocks after the university has established. Side by side, socioeconomic and infrastructural development have been taken place rapidly in the area. The most influenced area is Block A which is right in front of the university has got the highest commercial activities and land price in the whole region. The research findings also show the positive effect of establishment of an educational institution like University of Barisal on a backward region like Kornokathi in terms of changing in land prices, business, and infrastructures within a very short time. | en_US |
