Abstract
This internship report presents a comprehensive overview of the supply chain and import operations of Transcom Foods Limited (TFL), the franchise operator of KFC and Pizza Hut in Bangladesh. The report is based on practical learning and observations gained during the internship within the Supply Chain Management Department. It highlights the company's procurement practices, import procedures, supplier management, food safety standards, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.The report explains the fundamentals of international trade, including Incoterms 2020, HS Codes, Bangladesh's tariff structure, customs duties, UCP 600, and the role of the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCIE). It also describes how these regulations are applied during the import of raw materials required for restaurant operations.
A detailed discussion is provided on the complete import process followed by Transcom Foods Limited, beginning with supplier approval and product sourcing, followed by proforma invoice preparation, insurance coverage, Letter of Credit (LC) opening, shipping, customs clearance, and final delivery of goods to the warehouse. The report further demonstrates the significant role of C&F agents in facilitating customs procedures and ensuring timely delivery of imported products.
The study also examines the supplier approval, evaluation, and audit procedures established by YUM! International, emphasizing food safety, quality assurance, GFSI compliance, and continuous supplier performance monitoring. In addition, the report discusses the use of the Sage 300 ERP system, which integrates procurement, inventory, finance, and reporting functions to improve operational efficiency and maintain accurate business records.
Overall, the internship provided valuable practical exposure to import documentation, procurement activities, supplier coordination, customs compliance, and ERP-based inventory management. The experience strengthened both technical knowledge and professional skills while demonstrating the importance of efficient supply chain practices in ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted business operations at Transcom Foods Limited.
