For long Bangladesh has been heavily dependent on the Ready Made Garment (RMG) sector for export earnings and bulk employment. According to a report by The Dhaka Tribune, the export earnings from the RMG sector was $20.21 billion in the fiscal year 2018 and rose to $24.17 Billion in 2019. A whopping 83.4% (Source EPB) of total export earnings of Bangladesh comes from the RMG sector. Moreover, approximately 4.4 million people are employed in this sector of which 80% are women (Source WB). The data shows lack of diversity in production and export in Bangladesh.en_US
