Procurement Practices at Mir Group's Cement, Ready-Mix Concrete & Concrete Block Divisions

Abstract

This report is prepared based on my three-month internship (March 2026 to June 2026) in the Procurement Department covering Mir Cement Ltd., Mir Ready-Mix Concrete, and Mir Concrete Products Ltd. (Concrete Block) — three closely linked building-materials concerns of Mir Group, one of Bangladesh's largest industrial conglomerates with a diversified portfolio spanning cement, ready-mix concrete, concrete blocks, real estate, telecommunications, ceramics, and information technology. I worked as an Intern under the supervision of Mr. Muhammad Obaidul Haque Mahmood, Senior Deputy General Manager, Procurement, RMC & Block. During the internship, I was directly involved in day-to-day procurement activities for materials and services required by the production units. My core responsibilities included processing Purchase Requisitions (PR) and Purchase Orders (PO) through the company's Odoo ERP system, coordinating with local and cross-border suppliers regarding quotations, deliveries, and order status, maintaining procurement documentation and supplier records, and supporting vendor sourcing for spare parts and raw materials such as stone chips and cement. This report first outlines the background, objectives, rationale, and scope of the study. It then presents a company and industry profile, covering Mir Group's history, growth, product-service mix, operations, and a SWOT analysis, followed by an analysis of the ready-mix concrete (RMC) industry in Bangladesh. The report subsequently details my internship experience — the duties performed, the training received, my contribution to the department's operations, an evaluation of my performance, and the professional skills applied. The report closes with recommendations, key learnings, and an overall conclusion, supported by actual procurement documents collected during the internship.
