dc.description.abstractThe global business environment is changing rapidly, which has changed drastically the way organizations design and manage their supply chain systems. Digital transformation and sustainability have emerged as two key drivers shaking things up in global supply chains across industries. The theme: Digital and Sustainable Supply Chain Transformation in Global Supply Chains aims to understand the impacts of advanced technologies and environmentally sustainable practices on supply chain management for improving efficiency, resilience as well as long term sustainability. The old supply chains had many problems like poor visibility, faster communication, high overhead costs, low demand forecasting accuracy, environmental pollution harms high carbon emissions and globally vulnerable against disasters. Common practices have been further unraveled by events like the COVID 19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions and climate related disasters. Such challenges have resulted in a significant call for new and innovative solutions that may improve flexibility, transparency, and reactivity of the supply chain operations. Digital supply chain transformation solves these issues through Digital Supply Chain adoption powered by artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Big Data analytics, Cloud computing, robotics and automation. This technology allows the organization to operate on real time data, which can facilitate better decision making through intelligent insights of the pattern and trends in large datasets as well as improving inventory management and supply logistics being carried out by it. Artificial intelligence (AI) driven forecasting enables more accurate prediction of customer demand, while the Internet of Things (IoT) devices offer visibility into the real time location of goods, vehicles and operational processes within warehouses. Blockchain technology increases visibility and security, as products are opaque through the supply chain. Cloud convenient solution enables data sharing and cooperation without barriers among global supply chain partners. When used together, these technologies dramatically enhance operational performance and mitigate the risk of disruption across complex global supply networks. Other than Digital Transformation, Sustainability is also become a core focus area for every modern day organization. Now more than ever, increasing environmental concerns, stricter government regulations, and an increase in conscious consumerism is forcing companies to implement sustainable supply chain practices. These include green logistics, carbon reduction strategies, sustainable supply chain sourcing, waste management and englobe shifts towards circular economy and use of renewables. Sustainable supply chains work toward economic growth while simultaneously facilitating environmental protection and social responsibility, so that all stakeholders can create long term value. The combination of sustainability practices with digital technologies results in a smarter, more efficient, and environmentally friendly supply chain system. While Digital tools helps organizations measure and monitor sustainability performance, Sustainable strategy enables organizations to utilize resources responsibly along with minimizing the impact on environment. Together, these ingredients (comparative and cooperative strategies) work to enhance competitiveness, strengthen brand reputation, and comply with global sustainability standards such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The benefits and challenges of digital and sustainable transformations are also highlighted in this study, too. Benefits involve assistance with more efficient operations, improved tracking and monitoring, cost savings, better customer service, more robust resilience, and less impact on the environment. But high implementation cost, cybersecurity threat, lack of skilled resources, resistance to change and integration challenges need to be tackled in the best possible ways. To sum up, organizations should head towards digital & sustainable supply chain transformation to compete in the present global economy. Adoption of such strategies as described above can enable long term competitive advantage, operational excellence and environmental sustainability for a company. It is a shift that exemplifies the future of global supply chain management, where technology and sustainability merge to form business ecosystems which are responsive to change, efficient in function, and responsible in practice.en_US
